What's New at the Frances L. Simek Memorial Library
The Medford Library has gone through a lot of changes in the last several years. If you are interested in keeping abreast of new innovations that your public library is undergoing and other newsworthy items, this is the place to be.
2009 Volunteer of the Year
The 2009 Library Volunteer of the Year is Crystal Kloth. Crystal is an active member of the DEWS (devoted & energetic working students), the Library's teen group. She currently sits on the following DEWS committees: Book Club, Election, Anniversary and co-chairs the Membership Committee. Crystal has worked on the End of Summer Picnic, library garden work days, shelf straightening work days and fund raising events. When the DEWS tabulate their volunteer hours each year, Crystal is consistently near the top of the list. Crystal has impressed the library staff with her character, positive outlook, reliability, capability to tackle any project and in particular her organizational skills.
Youth Summer Reading Program
Each summer, the Frances L. Simek Memorial Library, Medford, and the Jean M. Thomson Memorial Library in Stetsonville host the Summer Library Programs in cooperation with the Medford Area Public Schools. The 2009 Summer Reading Program theme is: "Be Creative @ Your Library". It is open to all readers.
The Wisconsin Valley Library System and Medford Recreation Commission also provide fun and educational programs at the libraries to compliment the Summer Reading theme.
Storytime Fridays Program
During the school year, the Frances L. Simek Memorial Library, Medford hosts a Storytime Fridays Reading Program for children ages 2 to 5 years old. Programs begin at 10:30 am and are divided into Little Bears and Big Bears.
