For 2011, the Buttercup Whitewater Slalom Series is in its 45th year. A citizen level race series, it draws competitors from across the United States as well as a number of overseas countries. A number of former paddlers have gone on to National and International prominence in whitewater competition. All levels of skill are accommodated for in the races and people new to whitewater competition are encouraged to participate.

There are 5 Buttercup races. Paddlers earn points for each class they race in at each event. First place is 5 points, second place is four points, third place is three points, and anything beyond third place is one point. Points are cumulative for the series, and first, second, and third place trophies are awarded in each class at the banquet following the last race.
